Get out and about...

Salmon Fishing

We have salmon fishing on several local rivers. Fishing begins on January 12 running until the end of October. The best spring months are March, April and May when the fish average around 10lb but you could catch one of 18-20lb.

The grilse average 4-6lb and start running from mid-June through to August.

The larger summer salmon run the rivers from late July to the end of September.

Trout Fishing

Fishing for wild brownies on the many lochs from the bank or one of our boats you will find quite challenging and a lot of fun. Suitable for the experienced or novice. We can even supply fishing tackle. You can also try sea trout fishing on Loch Hope from our boat on Middle Bay.

Borgie Forest Walks

Castle of MeyThere are two delightful sheltered walks in Borgie Forest- "The glen" which is around five miles, and "The Dalness" which takes you up to the dramatic Borgie Fall where you can catch the salmon leaping.

Borgie Forest was one of the Forestry Commission's original plantings in 1920. Much of the plantation was destroyed by a forest fire in 1942 with only 20 hectares surviving the inferno. These surviving Scots pine and spruce are now the tallest trees in in the whole of Sutherland - more than 104 ft (32 m) tall.

The Borgie Forest Walks pass below some of these lofty pine and spruce giants and through the wide variety of conifers used to replant the burned forest - Scots pine, Sitka/Norway spruce, Japanese larch, Noble fir and Lawson cypress. The River Borgie, which runs alongside part of the walk, flows from Loch Loyal to the Atlantic Ocean at Torrisdale Bay.

Leisure Pool in Bettyhill

North Coast Leisure Pool, at nearby Bettyhill, has a range of exercise and leisure facilities which provide you with the opportunity to look after your health and to exercise as actively as you desire, or to relax and pamper yourself which is just as important. Whether it's a mile on the jogger, a soak in the spa or a swim with the kids, you'll have a great time.

The Leisure Pool was funded and built by the efforts of the local community with assistance from a number of public agencies. It is non-profit making. Tel: (01641) 521400.
